About us
Patten Seed Company is a family-run business that started over 60 years ago in Lakeland, Georgia. They grow, clean, and bag TifBlair Centipede and Zenith and Compadre Zoysia grass seed at their farms and facilities in Lakeland and Ft. Valley, Georgia, and Orangeburg, South Carolina. Their seed is sold globally. Focusing their sod and compost business in the Southeast, Patten Seed does business as Super-Sod through their 8 sod farms and 13 landscape supply stores in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Super-Sod sells sod by the individual roll, full pallet, or truckload. It's available for delivery or pick-up fresh from their farms to landscapers and directly to DIY homeowners. One of their most popular products has been their OMRI Listed Soil3 organic compost, delivered in a cubic yard BigYellowBag, which they make partially from composted grass clippings from their sod production. Super-Sod employs experts in turf and horticulture and the company continues to develop new garden products, foster gardening and landscaping, and always seeks to improve their farming practices, technology, environmental stewardship, and employee knowledge.

We are proud to announce that our very own Chris Roquemore has been named President of the Georgia Crop Improvement Association. This 79-year-old organization works hard to ensure genetic purity and identity for Georgia’s turf, peanut, wheat, soybeans, and organic industry. Chris has been with Patten Seed/Super-Sod for 22 years and currently serves as the Vice President of Seed and Lawn Coach. He looks forward to working for the entire agriculture community of the Peach State and appreciates the opportunity to do that alongside good friends.

We advise against using wheat straw to cover lawn grass seed. As seen in the photo, when it's spread, it increases the likelihood of sprouting. It's better to use a light layer of Soil³ compost. Not only does it provide more seed to soil contact, it also gives essential nutrients and retains moisture, most importantly, it doesn't bring in weed seeds! 🌱 #nowheatstraw #soil³isbest #seeding

Have you ever wondered what is happening under the soil, and why Veggie Mix is the best for your vegetables? Here is a visual from our Soil³ research nursery. Well, I would say this picture speaks for itself. #growninveggiemix #veggiemix #soil³

Help spread the word, large amounts of nitrogen in “Winterizer” fertilizer are unnecessary and sometimes harmful to lawns. Fertilizer ratios are a complex issue and confusing to our DIY customers, so we developed a Venn diagram to try to help guide them. If you see a way to simplify the diagram, we would love to hear your thoughts.

🙏🏈🌱 We were saddened to hear about Aaron Rodger’s injury on artificial turf and are rooting for him to completely heal and get back on the field doing what he loves. As turfgrass farmers, we love getting out on our own fields too. We obviously prefer natural turfgrass and know the dangers surrounding fake turf. To that end, we wrote an article to bring to light the many issues surrounding artificial turf. Please share this with your colleagues and customers to help get the word out: https://hubs.ly/Q022zBVB0
